Katie and Andy
Coach Christine describes Katie as a “solid mover” — super consistent in her movements. And she says Andy has been crushing it lately, hitting Rx. We are all so glad that you have made CFRE your home away from home!!
How long have you been at CFRE?
Since March 2015!
What inspired you to start?
K: I’d been thinking this CrossFit thing looked fun for long time, but was too nervous to give it a shot. Finally one of my coworkers practically dragged me to her box and it was love at first WOD!
A: Katie started CrossFit before we were married, and I was incredibly impressed with how her athleticism improved and how much she enjoyed it. I told her I’d give it a try once I finished school, and I’ve been loving it!
What makes you stick with it?
K: I love the sense of accomplishment that comes with achieving each little goal. I also know how much better I feel — mentally and physically — when I show up. Even if I’m not having the most stellar of workouts, I get to see friends. It’s a win-win.
A: It’s great to have the accountability and encouragement to gut through challenging workouts. It’s easy to work into our daily schedule, and it’s really satisfying to gain strength and achieve objectives.
What’s your favorite movement?
K: Double unders! They took me months and months (and months) of bruises and extra practice to become proficient, but now I love them that much more!
A: Once I got the rhythm down, toes-to-bar have become pretty fun!
What’s your current health- or fitness-related goal?
K: I’m currently chasing a 300 lb deadlift. I’d eventually love a muscle-up, but I’ll start with a ring dip. 🙂
A: Strict handstand pushups is the next major goal… after that, I’d like to be able to link some muscle-ups together.
What do you do for fun?
We both love backcountry skiing, backpacking, kayaking, and climbing!
Any advice for newcomers?
K: Just keep showing up and having fun! The rest will take care of itself.
A: Consistency is key. The strength comes as long as you keep at it!
