September Athlete of the Month

We actually know Chelsey originally because she was our daughter’s first nanny! We loved her immediately and couldn’t be happier to have kept her in our family. She works SO hard, being incredibly patient through lingering injuries. Thanks for inspiring us to be everyday better, Chelsey!

How long have you been at CFRE?
I think maybe 3 years or so. I can’t really say for sure because it feels like I’ve always been here. Which is awesome.

What inspired you to start?
I had tried CrossFit a couple of times but didn’t think it was for me. Then I started nannying for BeckyJo and Darrick and they convinced me to try just one class and see if I liked it. “Our gym’s different. You’ll love it I promise,” Darrick told me. He was right. One class and I was in.

What makes you stick with it?
At first it was the atmosphere at RE. Everyone was so fun and supportive that I just wanted to keep coming to be around them and get better at this weird new thing that I loved. But then one day, about a year in, I realized how strong I had actually become and all of a sudden I felt like a badass who could basically do anything!! That feeling is incredibly addicting, so it keeps me coming back.

What’s your favorite movement?
Can I pick two?? Right now, I’d say anything to do with a kettle bell because there are so many ways you can modify with them and still get a great strength and cardio workout in. When I’m not injured and can lift heavy, I’m all about the deadlift.

What’s your current health- or fitness-related goal?
My current goal is to continue to strengthen all the muscles that help support my knees so that I can get back to regular WODs and running again. I’m so grateful to be part of a gym with trainers who come up with creative ways to modify workouts so that I’m able to participate and still work on getting better, everyday. Also handstands. I’m about to get really good at handstands!

What do you do for fun?
I go to RE! And I coach and play Gaelic Football with the Seattle Gaels.

Any advice for newcomers?
Keep walking in that door every day. You’re going to have ups and downs on your fitness journey but the best thing about RE is the community of athletes and coaches who are there to support you. My best advice though? Just try to be more like Abbey Moon!!
