March Athlete of the Month


Joe has been described by the coaches as “consistent, friendly, and bad ass.” And I know he’s inspired the 5:30 class to step up their game! Mostly, we love Joe’s smile and we’re glad he’s part of our CrossFit family!

How long have you been at CFRE?

I’ve been at CFRE since August. Before that I lived in Tacoma and had been going to Tacoma Strength since 2011.

What inspired you to start?

I started when I was in the Army after seeing a bunch of my soldiers doing CrossFit in Iraq. It seemed more exciting than traditional workouts and I loved the group accountability part of it.

What makes you stick with it?

I love that the workouts are always changing and there is always something you can improve. Picking up heavy things is a pretty good perk too.

What’s your favorite movement?

Deadlift is probably my favorite. I don’t think there is a better movement for your overall health than deadlifts.

What’s your current health- or fitness-related goal?

I’m always trying to get stronger and learn new skills, but I primarily do CrossFit so I can do the things I like to do better. I love to backpack so I like anything that helps me get up the mountain faster!

What do you do for fun?

Jamie and I are planning our wedding, but I’m not sure that counts as “fun”… I also coach lacrosse for Redmond High School and try to get outdoors as much as possible.

Any advice for newcomers?

Don’t get discouraged. This stuff isn’t supposed to be easy and you wouldn’t like it as much if it was. Focus on perfecting the small details and soon enough you’ll become a master.
