April Athlete of the Month

Todd has been with us since the first year we opened! Nearly four years later, he still shows up consistently, works hard, and continues to make improvements … he PR’d his deadlift just the other day! Thank you, Todd, for your continued support and belief in what we do.

How long have you been at CFRE?
Oh boy, not quite sure … BeckyJo and D will need to check my guess, but I’m thinking at least 4 years! (It’ll be 4 years in August!)

What inspired you to start?
After driving past CrossFit RE on my way home for several months, I decided to stop and check it out. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a member. The warm reception speaks to the quality of the people who make up the community of CrossFit RE. After meeting with Darrick, he encouraged me to give it a try. Two of the most inspirational members I’ve had the pleasure getting to know are Joan and Abbey.

What makes you stick with it?
THE PEOPLE! BeckyJo and Darrick have created an inspiring environment that’s followed-up by incredible trainers – Christine, Thomas, Greg, Amanda, Dre and any others past or present I may have missed – all great people! Beyond the quality of the trainers, there’s a culture of support and encouragement from the members.

What’s your favorite movement?
I have no ego when it comes to my skills. That’s where I’ve come to appreciate the trainers taking time to spot the S&T work to help avoid injury and improve mechanics. For me, the greatest benefits come from the large muscle group movements – squats and deadlifts!

What’s your current health- or fitness-related goal?
Sticking with a regular workout routine and eat well. This spring/summer I’m going to re-discover my love for cycling.

What do you do for fun?
Edna and I bought a tear-drop trailer last November … I’ve been geeking-out on customizing; ship-in-a-bottle thing. So this summer we’ll be doing a lot of camping. We love being outside. We also are big foodies and enjoy cooking.

Any advice for newcomers?
Forget all preconceptions about CrossFit being too intense or intimidating. That could be true at other clubs, but not at CrossFit RE! There’s magic inside these doors, you won’t be disappointed.
