Favorite part about CrossFit?

Hands down the community aspect of our gym. We are like family. I love it.

Favorite paleo food?

Steak and eggs. I also love this salad that my wife makes: a roasted onion, sweet potato, and spinach salad.

Something surprising about you?

I have “DEEJ” tattooed on the inside of my lip. My initials are DJ (Darrick John) and the nickname comes from Kimmie Gibbler in the TV show Full House.

CrossFit Level 1; CrossFitting since 2011 … a life-long runner before that!

Favorite part about CrossFit?

Never before in my life had I felt like a badass until I started CrossFit. (Ok, first I felt like a big schmuck, but eventually I felt like a badass!) Being constantly tested both physically and mentally — and breaking through all those barriers — makes you feel like there’s nothing in life you can’t do. I want EVERYONE to feel this empowered.

Favorite paleo food?

Mmmmmm. I love food. Eggs. Sweet potatoes. Bunless burgers with paleo mayo, bacon, and sauerkraut. And paleo pancakes. And paleo morning glory muffins. And bulletproof coffee.

Something surprising about you?

I may not be as heavily inked as my husband, but I do have six tattoos. Two are rather large. Three of them are directly connected to Darrick.

Angie Gerardo: Coach/Manager at CFRE: SODO

Certificates/Experience

CrossFit L1, USAW Level 1 Sport Performance Coach; I’ve been doing CrossFit for over 4 years and I coached Olympic Lifting at 2 gyms in LA for almost 2 years

Favorite part about CrossFit?

Watching people (including myself) do things they never thought they could do. I love that CrossFit constantly challenges you to challenge yourself.

Favorite paleo food?

Paleo Pancakes. My recipe has been tweaked and perfected over the past 4 years!

Something surprising about you?

I really REALLY wanted to be a backup dancer for Britney Spears when I was in high school. I’m still a little bummed it never happened.

Greg Gerardo: Coach

Certificates/Experience

CrossFit Level 1; 4 years CrossFit experience

Favorite part about CrossFit?

I love the community aspect. It reminds me of being back on the Football or Baseball team. I’m a very competitive person and only on a team do you get that perfect mix of competition and support.

Favorite paleo food?

Grass fed Ribeye Steak with roasted Brussels Sprouts and Avocado

Something surprising about you?

I spent the last 12 years working on TV shows and movies in Hollywood.

Christine Lynch: Coach

Coach Christine

Certificates/Experience

CrossFit Level 1 and Level 2; I started CrossFit in October of 2011. I’ve always been a bit of a gym rat and I love doing most active things outside, but after my first class with Darrick, I was hooked! 🙂

Favorite part about CrossFit?

My favorite part about CrossFit is how strong I’ve become in all my other activities. I am better snowboarder, backpacker, climber, hiker, runner, and cyclist because of CrossFit. I am also mentally stronger and am generally a nicer, more compassionate person when I can get to the gym and lift heavy! I also love being a part of such a strong and tight-knit community at CrossFit RE. Our members constantly inspire and motivate me!

Favorite paleo food?

Fav. Paleo food? Easy. Bacon. And Coffee. And I maintain that if the Cavemen had access to wheat they would have made beer! 😉

Something surprising about you?

I know how to tap dance and keep a pair of tap shoes in my garage for impromptu dance sessions.

Experience

I’ve been competing in powerlifting off and on since 2007. In the last year, I’ve worked up to over a 3x body weight deadlift, lifting 445 lbs at 144.6 lbs body weight, and 479.5 @ 155. Prior to that I spent a couple years training in several local boxing gyms, and have coached people with a recreational interest in the sport.

Favorite part about CrossFit?

The people are what make RE. It’s rare to find a group of people involved in one’s life that are always supportive, uplifting, and encouraging you to be better everyday. However, my favorite part of RE is the space and the equipment. I’ve had an interest in competing in strongman, but haven’t had access to a facility with enough room or implements to train with. At RE, I can continue to train for powerlifting, and also begin training for strongman specific events.

Favorite paleo food?

Anything that contains a lot of calories.

Something surprising about you?

At a power lifting event in October, (CFRE coach) Emily asked me what I was listening to, getting ready for my 501# deadlift attempt. I think anyone one would be surprised to find out my playlist is comprised entirely of Mariah Carey, Kelly rowland, and Keyshia Cole. Not kidding.
